Jumping on the “Heroes” bandwagon.

Every single person I know has been verbally ejaculating about how great “Heroes” is. I’m watching the first episode right now and Jesus, this is one of the absolute worst pieces of television I’ve ever seen.

Oh, look, wordy exposition!

Oh, look! A female character who’s a prostitute and a mom! And another female character who’s a cheerleader who only apparently owns one article of clothing… her cheerleading uniform!

Oh, hey! A university professor in India making Christian-centric comments that elicit knowing laughter!

Oh, look, that tired old “humans only use 10% of their brains” piece of crap.

Oh boy! A woman being sexually humiliated!

The writing is crap, the characters are flat and unlikeable, the research is shit… wow. Just… wow.

I kinda like Hiro, though. He’s such a fucking dork, and so enthusiastic about his dorkdom. Hearts for him. Hearts. Everything else? I want to burninate it.

Exactly how I feel. I watched the first episode, part of it anyway, when it aired and I also only liked Hiro, also because of dorkiness. Then there was the hype and hype is the reason I avoided Harry Potter in the beginning.

    It’s pretty “meh.”Reply – Quote

Yeah, I’ve been avoiding it because of the hype, also.

Some of the most ringing endorsements have been “well, it’s better than anything else on tv right now.” Ohhhh, that’s damning it with faint praise!

On Gerry’s recommendation, I’m requesting the first season of “Dexter” from Netflicks.Reply – Quote

I’ve been hearing good things about “Dexter.”

We’re going through season three of “Futurama”, which Chase bought on whim. Man. I think the entirety of the “X-Files” we watched over the summer sort of made us people who’d rather watch a show when we want, on DVD, than on the TV.Reply – Quote

I tried watching the first episode when it aired and I had to turn it off.

    It’s gets better…and then doesn’t…and then gets better again….and then doesn’t.

I keep meaning to try to keep track of which writers write which episodes, because I think the problem is that they have some good writers, and then some bad ones, and then the people in charge are so-so.Reply – Quote

Oh! and yeah, Dexter is good. Really good writing. You can tell the creators of the show really knew where they were going with it, rather than just having a good, but not fleshed-out, idea.Reply – Quote

Hm. Yeah. It has been a bit up and down. I think you’re write about the writers.

I’ve heard good things a bout Dexter, including the gem “It’s kind of like CSI if CSI weren’t written by fucking retards.”Reply – Quote

I like Heroes. It has the right amount of cheese.

There’s nothing terribly original about it, but I enjoy the pace and I like some of the characters (not fond of whore-mom either, though. Really wish they’d kill her), and I also like the idea, even though it has been done before.

Also yes, Hiro is the best. But dr. Suresh is hot. God. So hot.Reply – Quote

I’m glad you like the Dr. Suresh eye candy, but NONE of the characters appeal to me either physically or emotionally. I find NONE of them attractive, save for goofy Hiro, and I sure as hell wouldn’t want to actually spend time with him. I have too many people like that in my life already, y’know? And I want to punch most of them in the throat. What’s cute on tv isn’t so cute in your living room.Reply – Quote

The Pilot for Heroes was pretty “meh” and the first season stays that way. I agree with the “gets better and then doesn’t” description. Just when the show looks like it is building to something awesome, it lets you down. All the way up to the first season finale. Though I am still watching, and season 2 has actually been much better so far. We’ll see where it goes and if they can make it all interesting in the end. As far as the which writer writes which episode idea…with Heroes, at least for the beginning of the first season when everyone’s storylines were separate, they assigned a writer to each character. So even though every individual episode was only officially credited to one writer, many writers worked on it. So you may be able to pick out your favorite writers by seeing which characters storyline is the most enjoyable. I don’t know what they started doing when all the characters started meeting each other…and don’t know if they kept this system for season 2.

Dexter has a good story, be besides the lead, the acting and is just awful. Everyone seems to love that show, but I can’t recommend it.Reply – Quote

It’s utterly asinine to expect an audience to sit through 22 hours of television before it gets better.Reply – Quote

I didn’t mean to imply that you should watch the all of the first season just so you can get to the second season, I think that the current trend of people feeling like they have to watch tv series from the first episode and on is a recent development that has come about with TV on DVD and DVRs and such, but it shouldn’t be a necessity at all. I just meant that if you wanted to start watching it now, in the second season, i think it’s better than it was last season, so that’s a good sign of something. Though I am not sure people agree with me. Even creator Tim Kring came out an apologized for this season getting off to a slow start…but I think that it’s been pretty good.Reply – Quote
